The Heat is On and Cubs Purr!!

The 2021 JHF Foundation tournament raised a record $73,616. Defending champion Crittenden Free Press led the way in fundraising with $11,637, but hot on their heels were the newcomers WBKS Bombsquad with $10,870 marking the first team other than the Free Press to raise over 10K! That was not the only record that was shattered. A record number of home runs were hit (144) eclipsing the old record by SIXTY (83). Numbers can be deceiving however. When compared to total hits, the home run percentage was 14%, exactly in line with previous years. For comparison, MLB home run percentage (14%). The tournament was divided into two divisions, American and National League. Nahla Woodward started the festivities with ceremonial first pitch. The Heat won the American League and the CC Cubs were national league champs. Carter Whittington (Heat) was named AL MVP while Anna Boone (Wiffle Woders) was NL MVP. Boone was the first multi hr hitting female in tourney history. Gavin Mitchell of the Cubs set a record for most hits in a tourney (13). Gabe Board moved into a three way tie (Dono McGregor and Gordon Dugan) for most hits in a career (39). Brandon Sigler cemented his legacy taking over all time HR lead with 15 in his career. Your Sports Edge, led by the Isom boys, had a good showing but came up just short against the Heat in the AL Championship. The most exciting game was in the AL semifinals as YourSportsEdge's Mich Blackmon hit a walk-off against the Barell Heads to go the the finals. Defending champs Free Press were 0-3 as star Dono McGregor was just the off injured list. Chris Smith and the boys from California filled in as last minute replacements admirably. Other notes; Gabe Board was 9-10 at the plate for a .900 average. It was a great weekend had by all.
